City of Temecula Acquires Streetlights and Commences LED Retrofit, Saving an Estimated $17.2M

The City of Temecula has commenced the retrofit of approximately 7,300 existing streetlights to energy efficient LED fixtures. This undertaking will ultimately save the City an estimated $17,252,622 through lower energy use and streetlight maintenance costs over a period of 20 years.

Temecula is one of eleven jurisdictions to participate in the WRCOG Regional Streetlight Program.  Across all participating jurisdictions, the Program will retrofit nearly 55,000 streetlights, resulting in regional savings of approximately $70 million over 20 years, which is enough energy to power 2,500 homes each year.

The City’s contractor, Siemens Mobility, Inc, began the streetlight LED retrofit today at the northern portion of the City, near Winchester Road, and will continue south towards Temecula Parkway. Impacts to traffic on major thoroughfares will be minimal, and residents are encouraged to obey work zone traffic laws for safety. The streetlight LED retrofit is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2020.
