[ARCHIVED] Temecula Proclamation Celebrations at City Hall Beginning with African American History Month

Proclamation

A Proclamation Celebration will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 6:00 pm, in Temecula’s City Council Chamber to commemorate and recognize February as African American History Month, also known as Black History Month.  This Proclamation will be presented to student club members from the Temecula Valley Unified School District. Additional Proclamation Celebrations planned in 2023 proudly presented by Temecula’s Race, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) Commission include the following:    


March 9, 2023                      Women’s History Month 

April 13, 2023                      Arab American Heritage Month

May 11, 2023                        Asian American and Native Hawaiian / Pacific Islander

                                                and Jewish Heritage Months

June 8, 2023                         Pride Month

September 14, 2023           Hispanic / Latino Heritage Month

November 9, 2023              Native American Heritage Month                                  

Temecula Proclamation Celebrations are presented in association with the City’s annual Temecula CultureFest which will be held on SAT, MAY 20, 2023.  The City’s inclusive, multicultural festival coincides with World Cultural Awareness Day.  For more information about Temecula CultureFest, visit TemeculaCa.gov/CultureFest.

All meetings of the REDI Commission are held monthly on the second Thursday at 6:00 pm in the Council Chamber (41000 Main Street).  Parking is available in the adjacent parking structure.  For more information about proclamations or the REDI Commission, please visit Temeculaca.gov/REDI.

Temecula CultureFest

Travel the world in one day at Temecula CultureFest on SAT, MAY 20, 2023 in Town Square Park and Sam Hicks Monument Park in Old Town Temecula.  This free signature Special Event is held annually and includes live music, dance, food, performances, activities, educational experiences, and cultural engagement for the entire family.  The large vendor will showcase many different cultures and traditions encouraging everyone to explore the diversity within our own community.

Old Town Temecula Community Theater

Join Us for the Annual Celebration of American Black History.  This year we will focus on black Americans in Classical Music. We invite you to join Sherry Williams and her quintet of jazz legends as she shares glimpses of the fifty-year musical journey that got her to where she is today.  Sherry’s career extends from the screen to the stage. She has worked extensively in and around the Los Angeles and Denver areas at high-end jazz venues. She has also had the opportunity to tour with legends such as Debbie Reynolds, Andy Gibb, and Johnny Ray, to name a few. Sherry will perform at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater (42051 Main Street) on FRI, FEB 24, 2023, at 7:30 pm.  

The String Queens (TSQ) are a dynamic trio creating stimulating musical experiences that inspire diverse audiences to love, hope, feel, and imagine! With a repertoire ranging from the Baroque Era to the Jazz Age to today’s Billboard Hot 100 Chart, TSQ performs versatile programs that transport audiences through time and genres. TSQ members have been featured in famed performance venues across four continents. One of their many performances was during the We Are One celebration as part of the official Presidential Inauguration. The concert will be held at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater (42051 Main Street) on SAT, FEB 25, 2023, at 7:30 pm.

Temecula Valley Museum

The City of Temecula, Community Services Department, Temecula Valley Unified School District, and the Temecula Valley Museum announce a new Emerging Artist Mural in Sam Hicks Monument Park (28300 Mercedes Street).  This temporary public art piece honors Frederick Douglass.  The Emerging Artist Mural Project seeks to support emerging artists by providing a space to showcase their craft.  Artists paint a mural on varying topics, facilitated by Bigfoot Graphics
