Christmas Cookie Recipes
Grandma Priscilla’s Christmas Cookies
- 2 1/4 cups of sifted flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup shortening (crisco)
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Sift flour, salt & baking powder together in a separate bowl.
- Cream shortening & sugar together, then add eggs & vanilla in a separate bowl.
- Add all sifted ingredients and milk in with the wet ingredients.
- Roll dough out with rolling pin and use cookie cutters to cut into festive shapes.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Frost and sprinkle cookies, enjoy!
Ethel's Sugar Cookies
- 3/4 cup butter, softened (1 1/2 sticks)
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Mix thoroughly butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla.
- Blend in flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cover and refrigerate, chill at least 1 hour.
- Heat oven to 400 degrees.
- Generously flour pastry mat and rolling pin, roll out dough to 1/8 inch thick.
- Cut out cookies with floured cookie cutters.
- Place on ungreased cookie sheets and decorate with colored sugar sprinkles, nonpareils, jimmies, dragees (silver or gold balls), and red hot.
- Bake 6-8 minutes (until very light brown) Makes 4 dozen.
- Frost undecorated cookies after baked and cooled.
Noel Balls
- 1 cup butter
- ½ cup confectioners sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 ¼ cups sifted flour
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup chopped nuts
Instructions
- Cream butter & sugar, add vanilla. Stir in flour & salt, add nuts
- Form into balls (approx. tsp size)
- Bake on ungreased cookie sheet until brown on bottom
- Bake at 400 for approximately 7 minutes
- Roll in confectioners sugar while hot
